WASHINGTON COUNTY, TN (WJHL) – One of the teens, who was critically injured after a police chase and crash, has died. Authorities with Tennessee Highway Patrol say Lacey Briggs was killed in the crash that happened on Cherokee Road Monday afternoon in Washington County, TN.
According to an accident report, none of the teens in the vehicle were wearing a seatbelt. Tennessee Highway Patrol told us the driver lost control and the Ford Ranger pickup flipped several times. Briggs was thrown from the truck during the crash.
Two other teenage boys were also injured.
The teens are accused of kidnapping and robbing a man in Unicoi County.
Unicoi County Sheriff Mike Hensley said they were chasing them after a man called 9-1-1 to say he had been robbed, and the suspects stole his truck.
The chase led investigators into Washington County.
The teens will face several charges related to the robbery, chase, and crash.
The truck was believed stolen from a man in Erwin after he was beaten and tied up in his home, according to Unicoi County Sheriff Mike Hensley.
Two boys in the truck were charged Tuesday with aggravated burglary, especially aggravated robbery, aggravated kidnapping, theft of property over $500 and theft of a vehicle over $1,000.
The boys, who were not identified in the crash report, were being held in the juvenile jail in Johnson City pending a hearing in Juvenile Court on Wednesday, Hensley said.
Hensley called the event a tragedy and has arranged for counseling for his deputies. THP is handling the crash investigation.
