DICKENSON COUNTY, VA (WJHL) – Authorities have identified a suspect who allegedly shot three family members in Southwest Virginia Tuesday morning.
According to authorities, 52-year-old Jamie Sykes, opened fire on his wife and in-laws around 9:00 a.m. on Robbins Lane in the Rose Ridge area of Dickenson County. Police say Sykes shot his wife, Teresa and her parents David and Glenna Robbins.
Shortly after the shooting, Sykes barricaded himself inside his home on Hill Ridge Drive. The Dickenson County Sheriff’s Office called Virginia State Police for tactical assistance.
VSP reported Sykes was arrested peacefully shortly before the lunch hour. Eddy Fleming is a neighbor who lives a few houses down from the shooting suspect. He was surprised to learn that someone he knows would be involved with this shooting.
“He came up here and scraped my driveway and cleaned it out in the winter time, took care of my mailboxes and never charged me a dime,” Eddy Fleming said.
Authorities say the victims were found outside of the suspect’s in-law’s home on Robbins Lane. One of the victims was found outside of the house while the other two were found inside.
“It appears to be a domestic situation. At this time, it’s under investigation by the Dickenson County Sheriff’s office and they are being aided in this operation by the Virginia State Police bureau of investigation,”
At this time authorities do not know a motive. Sykes has been charged with attempted murder and assault. He is currently being held at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Haysi.
The three victims were taken to Holston Valley Medical Center. A representative with the hospital tells us that Teresa Sykes is in serious condition, David Robbins is in fair condition, and Glenna Robins is in Critical Condition.
