A suspect is in custody who law enforcement believe is responsible for two separate homicides in Cumberland County.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says the first incident happened Tuesday at a home in the 80 block of Critter Creek Road in Crossville. Cumberland County deputies were called to the home around 6 p.m. CDT and found a man’s body in a trash pile in a vacant lot. He is believed to be the victim of a homicide.
TBI agents initially said the man had been shot, but now believe that may not be the case. The man’s name has not been released as officials are still working to notify his family.
The second incident happened at a home in the 2500 block of Vandever Road in Crossville around 10 p.m. CDT. Three people were shot, one of whom, Makayla Manning, 23, died at the scene. The other two were taken to the hospital in Knoxville.
Cumberland County deputies arrested a suspect believed to be responsible for both incidents at the Vandever Road location. He is currently being held for questioning. His identity has not been released.
The TBI, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department, the office of District Attorney General Bruant Dunaway and Tennessee Highway Patrol are all investigating.
