Snow forecast drives up local alcohol sales

JOHNSON CITY, TN  (WJHL)  – With the forecast of snow liquor store employees say that people come in and get their alcohol. Some customers told us not only does their alcohol purchases make the time that they are stuck in the house feel like it goes by faster. It helps them overcome the winter blues.

Parkway Discount Wine and Liquor employee Brad Renfro says, “People start coming in earlier. They see the forecast, and they see something’s coming. They want to get their products before they go home and get stuck. So it definitely picks up at the time.”

“It’s awfully cold outside and I have been stuck in the house and I figured I would come by the liquor store and get something to make the time go by a little faster and maybe warm me up at the same time.” , says customer Carl Bullen.

“Its football season too, with the playoff games, so I like to have something stashed away for the football games.”

Employees said that not only did they see their usual customers, but when snow is in the forecast they tend to see quite a few new faces. Employees also want to remind you to please wait until you arrive at your destination before popping that top or cracking that seal.
