INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (WRIC/CNN) — Three teens in Missouri were detained after authorities learned of a Facebook video showing them pointing a gun at a 13-year old boy and then punching him.
The boy’s mother, Emily Bridges, hopes the people responsible are held accountable. She didn’t learn what happened to her son Darren until he showed her the shocking video.
“I was hurt. I was angry,” Bridges said. “I was crying. I was mad. I was upset because he didn’t defend himself.”
The video showed the teens bullying Darren, telling him to kiss their feet as he was on his knees. Some of the teens use racial slurs before one of them takes out a gun and holds it to Darren’s head.
“It’s sad that other kids think it’s ok to treat people that way,” said Bridges. “Because I don’t want my kids to treat people that way and I don’t allow them to.”
She went to the police on Oct. 22 and then the following day.
“He just really said that they`re minors, there`s not a lot that happens to them. They have to do community service. There`s not a lot, I should just keep Darren away from over there and keep him at home,” she said about her first trip to the authorities.
The video shows the teens throwing punches at Darren after pulling the gun on him. Bridges thinks parents need to take responsibility for their children.
“I think a lot of them don`t have parents — that care. Not that they don`t have them, but just aren`t around or don`t care.”
She says the bullies stole money from Darren.
