Sex offender who police say lured Hawkins County teen indicted on federal kidnapping charge


GREENEVILLE, TN (WJHL) The man who investigators say lured a 14 year-old Hawkins County girl away from her home in June now faces new federal charges, including the charge of kidnapping, according to federal court documents.

A federal grand jury recently indicted Benjamin Shook on five counts, including kidnapping, enticement of a minor and interstate travel by an unregistered sex offender.

Shook was arraigned in federal court today and pleaded not guilty, according to federal court documents. His trial is set for May 3rd, 2016.

His alleged actions prompted an Amber Alert. It took 16 days for the teen to be reunited with her family.Copyright WJHL 2015. All rights reserved.
