Second Harvest celebrates 30 years in fight against hunger

NORTHEAST TENNESSEE (WJHL) – A food bank that remains at the forefront of the fight against hunger is celebrated a major milestone in Kingsport Friday.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee opened in 1986 and on Friday celebrated 30 years in the fight against hunger.

The food bank helps nearly 30,000 each year and in 2016 they expect to distribute $11 million pounds of food across eight counties.

Second Harvest also kicked off their summer food service program Friday, which will provide meals for 5,000 children in our region while school is out of session.Copyright 2016 WJHL. All rights reserved.
