Rogersville man on parole, girlfriend arrested for marijuana trafficking

HAWKINS COUNTY, TN (WJHL) – A Rogersville man out on parole and his girlfriend were arrested Sept. 13 for marijuana trafficking.

According to a HCSO news release, the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit was conducting surveillance on people that were suspects in drug trafficking when they saw people inside a vehicle meet up with another person at the Liberty Gas Station in Rogersville, met briefly and then left.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the 1993 Mercury on traffic-related violations and the driver was identified as John Rufus Cupp III, of Rogersville. A passenger was also inside the vehicle, and she was identified as Regina Mae Crawford, also of Rogersville.

During the stop, Cupp admitted to having around half an ounce of marijuana.

According to the release, it was determined that Cupp had gone to the gas station to try to sell the marijuana, but the sale did not happen.

Crawford was also found with a marijuana cigarette.

Deputies learned that Cupp was on parole through the Tennessee Department of Parole and Probation for felony cocaine and weapon convictions.

Cupp was taken to his home for a search, where deputies found approximately 3 ounces of marijuana, numerous scales and plastic baggies.

According to the release, Cupp was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a dwelling where narcotics are stored.

Cupp was taken to the Hawkins County Jail, where he remained pending a preliminary hearing in Hawkins County General Sessions Court.

Crawford reportedly admitted to having knowledge of drugs in the home and admitted to having access to it at all times.

She was charged with possession of marijuana.
