The Big Stone Gap Town Council held a special meeting and public hearing about proposed logging of at least 500 acres around the Big Cherry Reservoir.
Columbia Forest Products will use a helicopter to clear the timber clearing only 50 percent of the forest.
No logging roads will be built, and Columbia says that the reservoir and the Powell River will be protected by a buffer.
But people who came to the meet tell us they are still concerned about what will happen to the water.
Council members made no decision on the logging tonight.
We’re told council members will gather answers of questions that were asked during the public hearing and then go from there.
Their next meeting is set for Dec. 11 with a workshop also set for Dec. 4.
