Police in Richmond, Virginia are investigating after a man was shot on Virginia Commonwealth University’s campus.

Officers were called to W. Cary and S. Laurel streets early Monday morning.

At 12:42 a.m., the university sent an alert to students saying, Stay indoors. Avoid area.

At 1:09 a.m., students received an alert saying the situation had been resolved, but police remained on scene.

There’s no word on the victim’s condition, but a witness told 8News the man was shot in the stomach.

Witnesses reported that a black four-door sedan had driven by and an occupant of that vehicle shot the victim.

The shooting suspect is described as a black man who was wearing a white shirt.

VCU said police have increased patrols in the area.
