Police in Richmond, Virginia are investigating after a man was shot on Virginia Commonwealth University’s campus.
Officers were called to W. Cary and S. Laurel streets early Monday morning.
At 12:42 a.m., the university sent an alert to students saying, “Stay indoors. Avoid area.“
At 1:09 a.m., students received an alert saying the situation had been “resolved,“ but police remained on scene.
There’s no word on the victim’s condition, but a witness told 8News the man was shot in the stomach.
Witnesses reported that a black four-door sedan had driven by and an occupant of that vehicle shot the victim.
The shooting suspect is described as a black man who was wearing a white shirt.
VCU said police have increased patrols in the area.
