(WATE)- Specialty license plates have brought in more than $15 million for the Smokies over the last twenty years.

The state created the specialty plate in support of Friends of the Smokies, a non-profit charity that supports Great Smoky Mountain National Parks through fundraising, public awareness, and volunteer initiatives.

Just last winter, the plate was redesigned with the iconic black bear silhouette against the orange and purple sunset. We’re told this has sent sales up by 30 percent.

You can pick up a plate of your own at your local county clerk’s office.
