(WATE)- Don’t be alarmed if you see smoke in the Smokies today.
The National Park Service is planning a one-day scheduled burn in the Little Cataloochee area.
We’re told the trail will be closed to all public use from the Long Bunk Trail intersection to the Pretty Hollow Gap Trail intersection during the burn.
The 780-acre burn is part of the larger Cataloochee area prescribed fire project.
Fire managers aim to restore the composition of the oak and pine woodlands with a series of low-intensity controlled burns over a number of years.
