Sexual assault reported on flight to Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A Texas man is accused of sexually assaulting a woman on a weekend flight to Nashville.

Alfredo Vela, 30, was arrested Sunday night on a charge of sexual battery.

According to an arrest report, Southwest Airlines contacted Metro police around 9:15 p.m. Sunday to report inappropriate sexual contact involving two passengers.

The victim reported to the flight staff that she spoke with the stranger seated next to her on the plane, then went to sleep.

She said she woke up to the man rubbing her back and inner thigh, touching her breast and trying to put his hand under her shirt.

The victim said she “froze in fear” but then alerted the flight crew.

Bond for Vela was set at $5,000. He is expected in court on Oct. 19.
