Man carrying gun killed in officer-involved shooting in Cocke County, TN

Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are looking into the circumstances surrounding an officer-involved shooting that happened in Northeast Tennessee. 

According to the TBI, the shooting happened early Monday morning around 12:30 a.m in Cocke County, TN. 

Officers from the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office and the Newport Police Department responded to a report of a man walking down the middle of the roadway at the intersection of Highway 321 and Epley Road. 

Deputies said, the man later identified as Henry Gregory Stroud age 36, was carrying a gun and appeared to be agitated.  

Officers said they asked Stroud to drop the weapon several times. They report at one point, Stroud pointed the gun at officers, resulting in two Cocke County deputies firing shots — striking him. Stroud was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured in the incident. 

The case remains under investigation by the TBI.
