Former southwest Virginia police chief charged with rape

GILES COUNTY, VA (WFXR)  – A former Police Chief in the New River Valley has been charged with rape and abduction.

Virginia State Police said Kevin Buckland was arrested Monday.

Buckland is the former Chief of Rich Creek Police Department in Giles County.

VSP said the Wytheville Field Office launched an investigation on August 21 after a sexual assault was reported.

Officials with VSP said Kevin Buckland, 46, Rich Creek engaged in a non-consensual sexual act with a woman in June and that he detained the woman against her will earlier this month.
