Ed King, guitarist for Lynyrd Skynyrd, dies at Nashville home

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Ed King, the guitarist for Lynyrd Skynyrd has died.  

According to a post on his Facebook page, he died at his Nashville home on Wednesday at the age of 68.  

“We thank his many friends and fans for their love and support of Ed during his life and career.”  

King co-wrote the song, “Sweet Home Alabama.” He can be heard counting off the “One, two, three…” before beginning the song’s iconic guitar riff. 

He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Lynyrd Skynyrd in 2006.
