NEWPORT, Tenn. (WATE) – A Newport man was flown to UT Medical Center after getting stuck torso-deep in a muddy road residents say is the only way in or out to their neighborhood.

Centerview Volunteer Fire Department aided in the man’s rescue from the muddy depths of High Point Way in Cocke County.

Philip Denny shared photos and video footage of his muddy experience after he recovered. According to another resident, Denny and others were working on the mud-ridden road when Denny mis-stepped and became stuck almost chest-deep.

“I was stuck in the road and the rescue squad had to get me out,” Denny told WATE 6 On Your Side. “I was flown to UT Medical Center.”
