PADUCAH, Ky. (WKRN) – A basketball coach from Michigan was charged with assaulting and punching a Kentucky referee unconscious at a game Saturday in Paducah.

It happened at the Sports Plex on US Highway 60 West.

The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to the game for a disagreement between the referee and the coach.

When the referee turned to walk away, he was punched by 40-year-old coach Kenyon Menifield, of Flint, Michigan, according to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office.

Menifield reportedly left the area prior to deputies arrival. He was soon found at a local motel and taken into custody.

He was charged with assault of a sports official and released.
