RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The American Civil War Museum in Richmond will be opening its doors to the public this weekend. 8News was able to get a special preview of the new museum, which houses iconic artifacts.
Curators have been working on this for five years since the Museum of the Confederacy and the American Civil War Center merged in 2013. They say there will be plenty of stories you haven’t heard before.
“It shows people in their fully three-dimensional selves, and that resonates with me as a person today and makes me think more deeply about the choices I’m making and what that means for the histories that we’re creating today,” the museum’s Director of Education and Programs Stephanie Arduini said.
The museum, located at 500 Tredegar Street, opens on Saturday, May 4 with a public celebration from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
