RALEIGH, N.C. (WJHL) — North Carolina lawmakers failed to override the governor’s “Born Alive” veto.

The measure would allow doctors and nurses to be charged with a crime for not treating infants born alive after an unsuccessful abortion.

Governor Roy Cooper refused to sign the bill, saying it wasn’t necessary because newborns are already protected under the law.

GOP leaders brought an override vote yesterday, which failed in the House.
