Man Honors Union Army soldiers at Robert E. Lee monument

A North Carolina man’s vigil in Charlottesville, Virginia turned a lot of heads yesterday.

William Thorpe stood in front of Confederate General Robert E Lee’s monument all day to honor

soldiers who fought for the Union during the Civil War.

He says there has been a lot of controversy surrounding confederate monuments recently, but he

wanted to focus on the soldiers who served in the civil war.

“There must be a movement today to honor and recognize the Union soldier who won the civil war, not

to give so much recognition to those that lost the war, but those that won the war and fought for those

freedoms today,.” Said Thorpe
Thorpe has also spent more than one hundred days at the site where another confederate statue once stood in North Carolina.
