RIDGELAND, Miss (WJTV) – A shakeup leaves Madison County Schools searching for a new superintendent.

Kimber Halliburton resigned after less than one full year leading the district and it’s not the first time she’s left a job abruptly.

Halliburton, who started May of last year, resigned immediately with a month left to go in the school year and state testing beginning Monday.

Madison County Schools isn’t saying much about why and declined an opportunity to interview.

There’s a search for new leadership and a lot of questions for MCS.

Halliburton spent less than two years in Washington County, Tennessee and left amid some controversy.

Madison County community members made their thoughts known as it was announced Charlotte Seals will be taking over.

She’s a long time employee, and  most recently served as an assistant superintendent.

Some reaching out WJTV 12 directly said :

“Why did we spend 18k and get a dud of a superintendent? “ and “Why was she allowed to take the job without a ms license? “

Public records show Halliburton is not a licensed educator in Mississippi.

The district is referring back to the original press release and refused to comment on “personnel matters”.

Another member of the Madison County Schools community said:

“The district will remain mute on this issue. Madison County was reckless with this process and overlooked highly qualified individuals who have invested so much time in the district,  community, and the children.”

We are told Halliburton left to return to her hometown of Nashville to pursue other opportunities and take care of family issues.

The district says there will be an opportunity to meet with the Interim Superintendent Charlotte Seals as she will share her ideas to move the district forward.
