Seven people spanning three apartment buildings will be displaced after a 13-year-old accidentally crashed a car into one of the buildings Monday.

The Red Cross will assist the families that have been displaced.

The teenager was trying to park his father’s SUV when he hit the wrong pedal, sending the car into the building.

“When I tried to park it — it went full throttle. When I tried to hit the gas, when I tried to hit the brake I hit the gas on accident and just went straight toward the wall,” the teen told CBS 17.

Police said the incident happened along the 1300 block of East Hudson Avenue, which is the Bay Creek Apartments.

“I heard a big boom. I thought something had exploded,” Leroy, a neighbor said. “Can’t stay here tonight or tomorrow night. So they’re going to talk to our landlord, see when we can come back.”

The call came in before 6 p.m. Durham police said no injuries were reported.

Durham Police said the 13-year-old will not be ticketed or charged in the matter.

“I wanted to help them so he could get in and take a shower and just relax. But instead, this happened,” the teen said. “It was my fault and all the stuff is replaceable but family isn’t.”
