A 15-month old has died and a 20-day old is in critical condition after being found unresponsive in a Seymour bathtub on Tuesday.

Bethanie Carriker, 34, of Seymour has been charged with two counts of aggravated child abuse by neglect after her two infant daughters were found unresponsive in a bathtub.

The Seymour Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a residence on Green Fern Trail Tuesday around 2:45 p.m. after a report of two small children found unresponsive. Sevier, Blount and Knox County emergency responders were at the scene.

An arrest report says Carriker stated that she placed the two children into a bathtub and left the room. She returned 10-12 minutes later and found both blue and unresponsive.

Carriker was performing CPR when first responders arrived. Medics took over and both children were transported to East Tennessee Children’s Hospital.

The report states that the 15-month-old died as a result of drowning.

Carriker is being held on $1 million bond. She is set to be arraigned in Blount County General Sessions Court Wednesday, May 29 at 1:30 p.m.
