Pure Foods opens its global headquarters in Kingsport

KINGSPORT, TN (WJHL)- The ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Pure Foods plant in Kingsport on Friday morning means big things are on the horizon for Sullivan County.

Pure Foods specializes in healthy, gluten free, and non-GMO snack foods and they said they’ll be bringing more than just healthier foods to our region.

TN Governor, Bill Haslam, attended Friday’s ceremony. Haslam said, “Of everything that we do with the state, we can help in a lot of ways but the biggest thing that will change a community and families’ lives is a job.”

And more jobs along with healthier food options are both coming to Kingsport within the next few weeks.

Pure Foods President and CEO, John Frostad, said, “What this represents is just the start… I said a year ago, I’m standing on dirt, and you can imagine what will happen in five years.”

This ribbon cutting ceremony marks the opening of the first pure foods global headquarters and Kingsport native, Mike Wells will be serving as the general manager.

Wells said, “You look at Sullivan County and you look at Kingsport and both of them worked really hard to get us here and I think more food companies will follow.”

While the company is starting off with 50 employees… Pure Foods said it will end up employing 250 to 280 people in the Tri-Cities area…

Frostad said, “My belief is that this facility has more capability and more opportunity in the markets in which we are participating to develop more jobs than that.”

The factory still lacks a few machines and materials that will be arriving in the next few weeks with operations beginning almost immediately.

Wells said, “It’s going to grow. I think the community and everybody here is going to be really excited about what we’re going to do in the next year.”

The governor agreed this factory will be a great addition to northeast Tennessee.  Haslam said, “This is a big deal for Kingsport and upper east Tennessee … This is a company that could have located anywhere in the world, they have a global presence, and they chose Kingsport.”

Pure Foods said they are continuing to hire more employees and will continue to add additional jobs as the plant continues to grow.
