Johnson City Mayor Jenny Brock will sign a proclamation declaring Friday, June 7 “Gun Violence Awareness Day,” according to local activists.
The proclamation will be read and signed at 9:30 a.m. this Saturday in Founders Park. The event will be hosted by the Tri-Cities chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.
This will take place ahead of National Gun Violence Awareness Day and Wear Orange Weekend, which will start Friday, June 7.
The local chapter of Moms Demand Action is asking the community to wear orange on that Friday and the following weekend to honor those affected by gun violence and raise awareness.
A Wear Orange event is planned at Carver Park in Johnson City on Saturday, June 8 at 1 p.m.
