Police arrest man for stealing drivers ed car, ramming gate in Marion

News

Police say a man is facing charges after he stole a drivers education car from a high school and used it to ram the gate of a nearby industrial plant.

Marion Police arrested Joshua Edward Banks.

Police say they responded early Sunday to General Dynamics on Brunswick Lane, where they watched Banks ram the plant’s gate with a drivers education vehicle.

After arresting him, officers determined that Banks had crashed his own car on an embankment near Marion High School’s football stadium. They say he then stole a drivers education vehicle from the high school.

Police believe Banks did not know how to exit the high school’s parking lot and thought the General Dynamics gate was the exit.

Banks is facing several charges, including driving under the influence, felony destruction of property, and felony vehicle theft.

During the investigation, an officer found another vehicle sitting a ditch near the high school. The officer arrested the driver, Nicole Mobley, and charged her with driving under the influence.

The police department says both incidents are related.
