SULLIVAN COUNTY, TN (WJHL) – A church in Bloomingdale got almost $5,000 worth of damage this weekend.

According to the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, Vermont United Methodist Church in Bloomingdale was damaged by what appeared to be BBs or pellets.

Large glass panes in two doors were shattered, as well as the windows in the church’s van.

The vandalism likely happened late Saturday night or Sunday morning.

Damage to the church’s property was estimated at nearly $5,000.

Officials with Vermont United Methodist Church issued the following statement:

We confirm that vandalism occurred in our community the nights of Saturday, November 14 then again Saturday, November 28th at our church. The vandalism consisted of windows being shot by a BB gun. We are working in cooperation with the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department in their investigation of these events. We are asking for the community’s help that if you know anything please to contact the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department. We are saddened by these events, but we are committed to being faithful to the Bloomingdale Community by bringing hope this Christmas season. We will not be distracted, but remain focused on serving in ministry to the Bloomingdale community.”

Other vehicles in the community where the church is located were reportedly damaged around the same time frame.
