A Sarasota man is hoping the power of social media will help him return a necklace full of ashes to its rightful owner.

Shawn Rauch was out in the water at Siesta Key on Sunday when he found a necklace that contains the ashes of someone’s mother. The necklace is a silver ball featuring heart shapes and the word “Mom.” The pendant is on a silver chain.

Rauch is a metal detectorist and was neck-deep in the water when he found the necklace. He posted a picture of it on Facebook Monday afternoon in hopes it would reach the owner. It’s been shared nearly 1,000 times already.

Rauch tells News Channel 8 he’s been metal detecting for six years. He says he’s never found a necklace of ashes before but has found and returned other jewelry to people, including wedding rings and a Rolex.

If you recognize the necklace in the photo, Rauch says the best way to contact him is on his Facebook page.
