Record 17-foot female python caught in Florida

Trappers have captured a massive, record-setting python with 73 eggs inside of her.

The 17-foot-long snake is the largest python ever removed from Big Cypress National Preserve, according to a post on the park’s Facebook page.

Officials said the snake weighed 140 pounds.

Researchers have been tracking male pythons with radio transmitters to locate breeding females.

Wildlife hunters have captured more than 2,000 pythons since the Python Elimination program started two years ago in an effort to eradicate populations of the invasive species, which has been threatening conservation efforts in South Florida.
