Hurricane Florence weakens to Category 2

MIAMI, FL (WJHL) - The National Hurricane Center says Hurricane Florence has weakened and is now a Category 2 storm.

At one time, Florence was ranked a Category 4.

In its 11 p.m. update, the NHC reports the storm now features sustained winds of 110 mph.

The storm is currently moving northwest at about 17 mph.

The NHC says despite the storm weakening, life-threatening storm surge and rainfall are still expected.

Forecasters expect the storm to move over the coasts and North and South Carolina Thursday night and Friday.

The NHC expects little change in the hurricane's strength from now until the time it makes landfall.
