N.C. high school student watched ISIS videos, investigators say

BRYSON CITY, NC (WSPA) – The Swain County, N.C. high school student accused of making threatening comments to other students told investigators that he has “watched almost every ISIS propaganda video and he was impressed by their editing and software.”

That’s according to the search warrant obtained by WSPA from the Sheriff’s office.

The search warrant also states that during an internet search history on the boy’s computer “disclosed a number of searches for ISIS related news articles” and four separate searches on how to “make homemade explosives from household materials.”

The incident that led to the investigation happened on Wed. Dec. 16.

According to the search warrant, students told school administration that the boy said he was from Syria and ISIS wanted him to blow up the school.

The school resource officer took statements from the students.

The school was searched and video of the school was reviewed looking for any suspicious devices or packages, but nothing was found.

The sheriff contact the FBI and NC State Bureau of Investigation to help investigate the threats because of the reference to ISIS.

They got a search warrant for the student’s house and they seized computers.

The sheriff says the threat was taken seriously and they made every effort to protect students and staff.Copyright 2015 WSPA. All rights reserved.
