ABINGDON, VA (WJHL) – The nearly 70-year-old Moonlite Drive-In Theatre in Abingdon may soon get a facelift.

The theatre closed three years ago due to economic reasons. Bristol native, Kyle Blevins, recently bought the property and is now pioneering a preservation project at an estimated $300,000.

Starting this weekend, you can come out to weekend movie screenings, the proceeds go directly towards the project.

“I have literally had people cry, when they found out and came to me, thanking us for bringing it back to life, didn’t realize that there were that many people that it meant that much to so it’s really a community event,” Blevins said.

Blevins hopes to restore the property with new technology and a stage within the next eighteen months.
