GREENE COUNTY, TN (WJHL) State investigators never found missing drug evidence from more than 200 cases linked to the Third Judicial District Drug Task Force, according to District Attorney Dan Armstrong.
“That investigation was closed,” he said. “There was not enough evidence to bring a criminal charge against any one individual. As far as I know it did not compromise any ongoing case. I do not believe the evidence was ever found.”
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation opened an investigation in 2013 after state auditors learned of the situation. An audit revealed there were previously 223 drug cases in all where some or all evidence disappeared.
The previous district attorney told us he had to dismiss a small number of older cases as a result. His successor says DTF continues to work to make sure something like this never happens again.
“I think we’ve made progress,” Armstrong said. “We think we’re headed in the right direction.”Copyright WJHL 2016. All rights reserved.
