Marion Va host the “Spirit of 45” Celebration

Some call them the greatest generation in history and that sentiment was echoed Sunday throughout the small town of Marion Virginia during the 50th annual “Spirit of 45 Celebration”.

People gathered on the courthouse lawn to honor the soldiers from world war two and even sang songs that were popular when the solders left for war so many years ago.

Delegate Jeff Campbell said, “We owe you a debt of gratitude that we can never fully repay.”

The veterans in attendance said they walked away with a feeling of gratitude, that their service to this country was recognized.

Virginia Delegate Israel O’Quinn said, “There aren’t very many people in this world that have the opportunity to say that they actually altered the course of history, and particularly altered it for good.”

One veteran in attendance not only celebrated his service, but Joe Ellis also celebrated his birthday.

People in attendance said they hoped by the end of the ceremony the heroes of Marion held their heads a little higher.
