HAWKINS COUNTY, TN (WJHL)- A man swimming in an area lake Sunday afternoon was rescued by fishermen after nearly drowning.
According to officials with TWRA, a man swimming in Cherokee Lake between Slate Hill Road and Highway 11W was swimming back and forth between the shore and an island.
Officials report the man became tired, and started to go under the water, when people fishing nearby took notice and came to the rescue.
The man swimming, who hasn’t been identified, was airlifted and taken to a local hospital.
Officials with TWRA said the man was alert while he was being transported.
No other details were available Sunday afternoon.
