SULLIVAN COUNTY, TN (WJHL) – A man convicted of driving drunk before hitting and killing a former state lawmaker has been denied a new trial.

In Sullivan County court Friday, James Hamm, Jr. sought a new trial, but that was denied.

Back in May, Hamm was sentenced to 14 years in prison.

He’s accused of hitting and killing former state Rep. Mike Locke back in June 2014.

Investigators said Locke was putting up campaign signs for current state Rep. Bud Hulsey.
