Man charged with second-degree murder in Greene Co. shooting

Greene County Sheriff’s Office deputies said a Limestone man was charged with second-degree murder following an investigation into a shooting on Old Milburton Road Monday night.

According to the release, David E. Wiles, 63, 1075 Old Milburton Road, was charged after a state warrant said “the defendant did knowingly kill Stacy L. Hayes by shooting him at least twice with a handgun at close range.”

In an earlier release, deputies found Hayes dead at the Old Milburton Road home Monday just after 11:30 p.m.

Wiles was taken to the Greene County Detention Center, where he was being held on $125,000 bond.

He was scheduled to appear in Greene County Sessions Court Wednesday.

Greene County Sheriff’s Office deputies said one person is in custody following an investigation into a shooting on Old Milburton Road Monday night.

According to a GCSO news release, deputies responded to a home on Old Milburton Road just after 11:30 p.m., where they found Stacey L. Hayes, 37, 374 Blackley Creek Road in Limestone, dead at the home.

The sheriff’s office said one person is in custody and said they are not looking for any other suspects in the investigation.

GCSO detectives and 3rd Judicial District Attorney General’s Office are reviewing the facts of the case.

No one has been charged at this time and the investigation is active and ongoing.

No other information was released.
