Longtime Johnson City restaurant owner passes away

JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL)- The owner of one of Tennessee’s first big locally owned restaurants has passed away.

Family members tell News Channel 11 Jim Kalogeros, owner of the Peerless restaurants, died at the Johnson City Medical Center on Friday.

In 1938 Jim Kalogeros and his father opened the Peerless restaurant in Johnson City.

He worked there until about 5 years ago.

Kalogeros was responsible for major growth and development of north Johnson City.

His son Gary Kalogeros gave us this statement over the phone on Saturday:

“He absolutely loved people in the Tri-Cites and showed true hospitality to all people at Peerless. Our father will be missed.” -Gary Kalogeros

Funeral services for Jim will be held on Monday May 23rd at 11:30 am at St .John’s Epsicopal Church in Johnson City.Copyright 2016 WJHL. All rights reserved.
