A special welcome home celebration is scheduled next week for one of the Jonesborough Police Department’s newest additions.

Paws in Blue will host a “Welcome Home Party” for K9 Officer, Nero.

The party is open to the public and will be held outside the Jonesborough Town Hall on Tuesday, June 4, at 11 a.m.

Nero is a 17-month-old Dutch Shepard and is specially trained in apprehension and narcotics.

Nero is partnered with Jonesborough Police Officer, Tammy Ray. The two have been training together for the past six weeks, gaining an understanding of how the other operates.

During Nero’s Welcome Home Party there will be a chance to meet him and Tammy, as well as Loki, one of Jonesborough’s other K-9 officers who is trained in drug detection and tracking.

JPD Chief Ron Street will share a few words about the department during the event. Paws in Blue Coordinator Ruth Verhegge will also present both K9 officers with a “doggie treat” to celebrate the occasion.
