North Carolina officials confirm the suspect involved in a late night officer-involved shooting has died of injuries.
Watauga County Sheriff Len Hagaman confirms to News Channel 11 that the suspect was admitted to a regional hospital and succumbed to injuries during emergency surgery. The suspect has been identified as 22-year-old Andrew Mason.
The North Carolina Medical Examiner is handling the case.
Deputy Adam Gragg has been placed on administrative leave due to the investigation of the incident.
North Carolina officials confirm they are currently investigating an officer-involved shooting in Watauga County.
According to investigators, Watauga County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to 2145 Hardin Road to the report of a suspicious man going through properties trying to gain entry into homes.
One deputy saw the suspect in the road and attempted to make contact, according to investigators.
A spokesperson for the department said a “violent struggle“ ensued and the deputy shot his firearm, hitting the subject.
The NCSBI is investigating the incident and the officer has been placed on administrative leave, per Watauga County Sheriff’s Office protocol.
