The Washington County, Virginia Board of Supervisors is planning to discuss relocating the county courthouse at a May 28 meeting.
County officials said the Board has considered many options to fix the issues related to courthouse operations like overcrowding, limited room for expansion and security deficiencies, among others.
Under state law, a relocation of the courthouse requires a referendum.
Because of this, the county plans to hold town hall meetings in each election district.
During the meetings, the Board plans to educate people on the issues at the current courthouse building.
The Board is also seeking feedback from citizens on a site for the potential relocation of the courthouse.
