Washington County Board of Education to discuss ‘Bars’ vs ‘Bears’

Local

The Washington County Board of Education is meeting tonight to discuss multiple subjects, including the hotly debated topic of Boones Creek School’s mascot.

The mascot of the school has been the “Bars”, which pays tribute to a tree in which it is believed that Daniel Boone carved about his encounter with a bear in the region.

Many have said they want to keep their unique name, while others have argued that they would rather a more recognizable mascot of the “Bears” should be chosen.

The meeting in which this topic is scheduled to be discussed is 5:30 p.m.
