Washington Co., VA deputies, VSP seek ‘white supremacist’ suspect after shooting

WASHINGTON COUNTY, VA. (WJHL) – Deputies in Washington County, VA say they are searching for an “extremely dangerous” suspect who they say was involved in a shooting this morning.  

Deputies say the shooting happened around 8:30 a.m. in the western end of the county. on Lime Hill Road. 

According to Major Byron Ashbrook, the suspect, 44-year-old Roger Melvin Tackett from Clintwood, VA made his way into the Lime Hill Road home and shot a man.  

Investigators say Tackett is affiliated with a  white supremacist group. 

The male victim is currently being treated for critical injuries at a local hospital. 

Deputies are searching the area for Tackett and they believe he may still be in the vicinity. Virginia State Police is utilizing its helicopter to assist in the search. 

Authorities consider him to be armed and dangerous. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call local authorities. 

In addition, deputies are working on getting additional felony warrants and they believe more charges are pending.
