VSP: Fatigued driver may have led to fatal Russell Co. crash

Virginia State Police think a fatal car crash in Russell County on Sept. 6 happened because the driver was too tired.

VSP Spokesperson Corinne Geller said Charles J. Lawrence, 20, of Castlewood, Va.died when he ran off the left side of Route 71 near Ridgeway Drive around 3 a.m. and struck a tree. He was wearing a seat belt but died at the scene. The crashed vehicle was not spotted until shortly before 8 a.m.

Fatigue is being investigated as a factor in the crash. Alcohol was not involved.

Virginia State Police is still investigating that crash.
