Cell phone video shows parents breaking out into a brawl during a Tri-Cities softball tournament, resulting in both teams being kicked off the field.
It’s a video that’s circulating social media.
It shows nearly a dozen parents throwing punches at each other during a softball tournament Saturday.
An incident that had other parents shocked and outraged.
Lesli Hicks said her sons have played in baseball tournaments for years and she have never seen a fight break out.
“I just felt like everybody was really immature,” Hicks said. “I don’t know what they hoped to accomplish by acting like that, it didn’t benefit their children anything and it really just shows poor sportsmanship.”
USA Softball Tournament Director Tina Gale said both teams involved in the fight were from North Carolina. She didn’t say what the teams’ names were but she said both of the teams were immediately disqualified from the tournament.
Hicks said she is glad to hear the teams weren’t from the Kingsport area.
“I mean I’m a screamer at baseball games. I like to yell and scream but I do my best to scream positive things to the kids and just encourage them,” Hicks said. “Sure there are parents that are out of control but for the most part, what I see locally everyone keeps them self well in check.”
According to the police report filed by the Kingsport Police Department, no arrests were made after Saturday’s brawl.
Gale said local administrators with USA Softball are still investigating this incident but as of right now both teams have been removed from any future tournaments.
