UPDATE: No charges for driver who hit 12-year-old riding bike in Marion, Va.

5/28 UPDATE: A driver who hit a child riding a bike in Southwest Virginia Monday will not face any charges, according to police. 

Marion, Virginia Police officials said a 12-year-old was riding a bike through a parking lot Monday evening when the incident happened.

The 12-year-old girl was reportedly attempting to turn onto a sidewalk and lost control. She went into the roadway and was “immediately struck by an oncoming car.” 

The girl was then flown to the Johnson City Medical Center for treatment.

There was no update on her condition Tuesday.

Police said the investigation determined no charges will be placed against the driver.

Police say a child was flown to a hospital after being struck by a car Monday afternoon.

It happened around 5 p.m. in the 600 block of South Main Street in Marion.

The Marion Police Department says a 12-year-old girl was riding a bicycle when she was struck by a car. The child was flown to Johnson City Medical Center. 

Her condition is unknown at this time.

No charges have been filed, but the incident remains under investigation.
