UPDATE: Man will be charged with attempted murder after Johnson County shootout, sheriff says

Authorities say a man who remains in the hospital will face an attempted murder charge following a shootout Wednesday evening. 

Johnson County Sheriff Mike Reece says Dayton Stout will be charged with attempted first degree murder. 

The charge is in connection to a shooting that happened around 7 p.m. Wednesday at 2044 Dry Hill Road. 

Sheriff Reece says Stout and another man were injured after they shot each other. According to Reece, one was critically injured with gunshot wounds to his chest and leg. He was flown to a hospital.

The other man was taken to a hospital by ambulance, Reece says. 

The sheriff tells News Channel 11 says the man who Stout shot has been released from the hospital.

Stout remains hospitalized, according to the sheriff. His condition is unknown at this time.
