Improvements could be on the way for different facilities within the Unicoi County school district.
One of the eyed improvements includes Gentry Stadium, the football stadium for Unicoi County high and middle schools.
Director of Schools John English tells News Channel 11 that school officials welcomed Unicoi County Commissioners to the stadium Thursday to provide an update on the bleachers and other needed projects.
“Gentry Stadium is beautiful, but our bleachers are in pretty bad shape,” English said. “That’s one of our top priorities.”
English added there are concerns with the seating due to cracks and the age of the bleachers.
English says the system is looking at different improvements across the county, including improvements to the schools’ track and field location to put it within proper regulations to host home meets.
Other projects being tossed around includes a new elementary school gym and an overhaul of improvements at different schools.
“We’re requesting the support of the County Commission,” English said. “Our debt at the high school comes off the books in the next year or so. Our hope is to have a new bond note issued to help address these improvements. Gentry Stadium is at the top of the list.”
Improvements for the school system are expected to be brought up during this month’s County Commission meeting.
