Two injured when car hits utility pole near Erwin

State troopers say two people were taken to a hospital after a crash near Erwin on Tuesday afternoon.

It happened just before 5 p.m. on Chestoa Pike near Masters Lane.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol says a 1972 Plymouth Road Runner was traveling south a high rate of speed when the driver lost control in a curve. The car ended up crossing the northbound lane and striking a utility pole.

According to THP, the driver, 29-year-old Michael C. Duncan of Erwin, and the passenger, 30-year-old Corey McInturff of Erwin, were taken to a hospital. The extent of their injuries in unknown.

THP says charges are pending.
